Maine citizens have spoken loud and clear. They want patients to have access to their medicine, so on November 6th, 2007, we began gathering signatures to get a ballot initiative in front of the voters. This initiative will guarantee that medical marijuana patients can access their medicine in dispensaries set up across the state.
Hey Folks,
We have reached the 55,000 mark for signatures! This means we have enough to qualify for the ballot in 2009. But over the next two months we need to gather an additional 8-10,000 more to provide us with a safe cushion for when we turn the signatures in to the Secretary of State.
If you can volunteer to pick up 100 more signatures in your hometown, please contact us immediately at 333-6985 or info@mainecommonsense.org.
To help with signature collection, we have prepared some materials for you:

Current law allows a person who has been diagnosed by a physician as suffering from certain medical conditions to possess marijuana for medical use. This initiated bill directs
the Department of Health and Human Services to issue registry identification cards to patients who qualify to possess marijuana for medical use and to their designated primary
caregivers. It sets limits on the amount of marijuana that may be possessed by qualifying patients and their designated primary caregivers. It allows the establishment of
nonprofit dispensaries to provide marijuana to qualifying patients and directs the Department of Health and Human Services to issue a registration certificate to a nonprofit
dispensary that meets certain criteria. It changes the description of the medical conditions for which the medical use of marijuana is permitted. It directs the Department of
Health and Human Services to establish application and renewal fees sufficient to pay the expenses of implementing and administering the provisions of the initiated bill.
